To obey or not obey!

blessedThe word of the day is obedience. God is the author and creator of life. God has planned and fashioned your life for success. Ultimately, I believe any success that I have in life is due to following the direction of my creator.

Deuteronomy 28:1 “If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully keep all his commands that I am giving you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the world.”

Years ago I remember driving with my daughter Hunter, who was 9 or 10 years old at the time. We stopped at a traffic light. Standing on the corner was a homeless man with a cardboard sign asking for money. Hunter looked at me and asked, “Aren’t you going to give him any money?”

I quickly responded, “No,” explaining that he would probably just spend the money on alcohol. So giving him money wouldn’t be helping him.

Seeing the confusion and disappointment on her face. I quickly explained or maybe justified, that if God were to tell me to give money to this man I certainly would. (That should have done the trick, right?) I know, I know playing the God card on a 9 year old is wrong. But she didn’t fall for it. Or maybe I should say, God didn’t fall for it. Hunter looked at me with absolute confidence and said, “God just told you to.” Well I wasn’t about to argue with her or God. So I rolled down my window and gave the man some money.

Here’s the point of this story. God sometimes speaks to us in peculiar ways and sometimes in traditional ways like through His Word or a still small voice. Regardless, we have an obligation to be obedient. When we are obedient, we can be assured that God is going to lead us and guide to His very best for our lives.
