How to make better decisions each day!

decisionsBetter decisions. This is what I want you to speak over yourself and your family today.

James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

I know God wants us to make better decisions. His Word says He will give us wisdom when we ask Him. But He also gives us common sense to help us make better decisions as well.

Every day we are faced with making the right decision or not. Do I choose the cola or the water? Do I choose the chips or the fruit? Do I work out or do I watch another TV program? Do I pray and read my Bible or do I check email and social media? Do I spend time with my family or do I hang out with my friends?

When you walk in a grocery store, they make it easy for you. They put what they want you to buy at eye level, on the end of the isle or in your face at the check-out line. Department stores do the same thing. In fact, most any retail store uses this method. They make it convenient for you. Too convenient to pass up!

I want you to try to use this same method for making better decisions in your life each day.

Try these three tips.

  1. Convenience- Make the better choice more convenient. Have a daily Bible reading plan on your phone or tablet. Keep your Bible next to your bed. Let it be the first thing you see in the morning and the last thing you see at night. Buy healthier choices of food and drink. When you do this you will be able to make a better decision when you get hungry or thirsty. Whether you are at home or at the office, make the healthier choice more convenient, by having it available and convenient.
  1. Inconvenience- When it comes to daily decisions like working out, prayer, study, reading, meditation, etc., build in a system of accountability that requires you to have to do something inconvenient to get out of it. Have an accountability partner. Schedule with a trainer. Schedule devotionals to pop up on your calendar or desktop. That way, you would actually have to do something to not complete the task. Make not completing the task more inconvenient than completing the task.
  1. Visual motivation- We are motivated by what we see. If you have a dream vacation spot or a dream home, keep pictures of it visible at all times. If you desire a healthy body or it could be the job that you believe you will have, keep visual motivation in front of you. It will inspire and compel you to do whatever is necessary to achieve the dream.
