Move Forward!

move forwardYears ago when Starla and I were Pastoring in Houston, I would often go downtown on Saturday and invite the homeless to ride our bus on Sunday to church. I remember talking to man whose street name was “Redman.” I asked him to ride the bus to church, he issued me a challenge that I couldn’t refuse. He asked me, “Why don’t you bring church down here to us?” I love a challenge. I have a hard time turning down a dare. (Which often gets me in trouble, but that’s another story)

I looked Redman in the eyes and I said, “You’re on. Tell your friends that we’ll will be down here next Friday night. We’ll have church right here under this bridge.” And that’s exactly what we did. For the next several years, I preached every Friday night under the bridge. We would set up a sound system and bring our band and worship team. Then we would serve a hot meal after we had service.

I have a lot of great stories to tell from our experience under the bridge every Friday night.

But the point I want to make today is that often times we expect things to come to us. We pray for things to come our way, like opportunities, favor, open doors, love and acceptance. But sometimes you have to go to it. Sometimes you have to move out of your comfort zone in order to position yourself for a something better.

Remember when Jesus called Peter out of the boat, to walk on water?

Matthew 14:29 “Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus.”

Peter had to get out of the boat to experience this miracle.

Get out of your boat. Get out of your comfort zone and move toward something better. Keep moving forward. Move Forward is the word of the day.
