Starla and I were having dinner with our entire family the other night. All fourteen of us. (With two more on the way) This is no small task, when we take over a restaurant. Many tables are joined together. We pretty much use all of the high chairs, kids menu’s and crayons the restaurant has to offer. Starla and I usually have a grandchild or two on our lap. We gather around the tables and we are family. We share stories, we catch up on each other’s day. We share the excitement of one our grandchild’s new discoveries, because each day is a new adventure for each of them.
As soon as our food orders are taken we all bow our heads and we pray. We ask God to bless our food and we thank Him for our provision. Unapologetically and unashamed we all bow our heads and give thanks to God.
Sitting next to our table was a man in his fifties, eating alone, who I noticed was watching our every move. When he finished his meal, he walked over to our table and he looked at me and said, “I see what you are doing. Keep it up.” Then he looked at all my kids who are parents of their own and said, “You’re all going to make great parents.”
I humbly said, “Thank you,” as he walked away.
What was it that he saw, that made him think we were doing something that deserved recognition?
He saw us pray together. He saw us laugh together. He saw us share together. He simply saw us “together.”
The word of the day is together. Being together with the people you love makes all the difference in the world. You can’t make up for time together with toys and electronics. Be together.
Acts 2:44 “And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had.”
