I was stopped at a traffic light the other day while driving to an appointment. The red light turned green and the car in front of me did not move. I waited a moment to see if they were just slow to accelerate or if they were distracted by their phone. Because we have all been guilty, myself included, of checking our phones while at the traffic light and not notice when the light changes. What was only a few seconds, seemed like an eternity, while I tried to determine if it was worth it or not, to honk my horn.
In moments like these, I wish I had two different sounds on my car horn. I need a horn that says in a kind tone, “Excuse me please, but the light has changed.” Of course, there are times when we all need the horn that says, “Look out you crazy idiot, you’re gonna kill someone.” (Not that I would ever do that.)
In an instance like this, I find myself trying to judge whether or not it is worth it to honk, or if I’m in a hurry or not, or whether or not the person in front of me will understand the nature of my honking. Of course, all of this is happening in a split second. Some of you are thinking, Kendall, you are really overthinking this. Maybe.
The word of the day is judgment.
Life is full of making judgment calls. Often they are forced to be made in a split second.
That’s why we need to rely on the Holy Spirit to guide us.
John 16:13 “But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.”
Listen to the Spirit to make those judgment calls. It will make your life better.
