Hairstyles, clothing lines, jewelry, cologne, perfume, cars, homes, your walk, your talk, your attitude, it’s all about image.
In the world’s view, image is everything. I tend to agree. As long as the image that we are striving to portray, is the image of Jesus Christ.
Here’s the problem, we have a tendency to try and make Jesus conform to our image, rather than us conforming to the image of Christ. We create a Jesus in our minds that looks like us, thinks like us, shares our values, understands our weaknesses and overlooks our sins. The only problem with that is, when we go to church on Sunday and worship, we are not worshipping Jesus, and we are worshipping the Jesus that we have created in our minds. We are worshipping ourselves.
Genesis 1:27 “So God created mankind in his own image.”
In everything we do, we must be moving toward the image of Jesus Christ.
Let me sum up the image of Jesus Christ in a word. Love.
In case you need a reminder of what real love is, not the world’s definition, here it is in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8; Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails.
The word of the day is image. Let’s take on the image of God. Your life will be better.
