Did you know that a 20 second hug releases the bonding hormone and neurotransmitter, oxytocin, which is nature’s anti-depressant and anti-anxiety drug?
A hug is a good medicine. It transfers energy and gives the person hugged an emotional lift.
Hugging is a form of communication, because it can say things that you don’t have the words for. And the nicest thing about a hug is that you usually can’t give one without receiving one.
Many of you may have seen the picture and or read the article called, “The rescuing Hug.” The article details the first week of the life of a set of twins. Apparently, each were in their respective incubators, and one was not expected to live. A hospital nurse fought against rules and placed the babies in one incubator. When they were placed together, the healthier of the two threw an arm over her sister in an endearing embrace. The smaller baby’s heart rate immediately began to stabilize and her temperature rose to normal.
It simply illustrates the power and the beauty of a hug.
The story of the prodigal son, shows the heart of our heavenly Father that runs to his son when he returns home. He throws his arms around him hugs and kisses him.
Luke 15:20 “So he got up and went to his father. “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.”
The word of the day is hug. You need a hug today to be better. I know it sound a little soft. But you know it works. So work it.
