Selflessness!

others firstWhen my youngest daughter Hunter was turning nine years old she surprised Starla and me. She told us for her birthday, instead of giving her gifts, she wanted to use the money that we would have spent and use it to make lunches for the homeless. So that’s exactly what we did. We made sack lunches and headed to the downtown area where we knew the homeless would be. We stopped at parks, under bridges, behind abandoned buildings and passed out dozens of sack lunches. We had so much fun reaching out to others. Hunter has always had an extremely compassionate heart for hurting people.

This had to go down as one of the most selfless acts I had ever seen in anyone. But what great reward. The satisfaction that we all experienced was priceless. That’s why the word of the day is selflessness.

Philippians 2:4 “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”

So how does this relate to you and me and our lives, relationships, marriage and business?

Everyone needs to show compassion to others. This is a key to living with purpose and meaning. Why not try giving up something that you are entitled to and give it away? Sow into others. Look around you and find a need and fill it. Find a hurt and heal it.

In doing this, you will find the heart of God.
