I saw a gate the other day while walking around a lake. It was placed erroneously next to the walking path. It was securely locked, with a heavy-duty chain and padlock. It had a sign on it, that said, “Keep gate closed.” There was no way anyone was getting through that gate. But the irony was, that it was not connected to a fence. It has no fence to its left or its right. It was a gate to nowhere.
I feel like we do this with our lives way too often. We securely lock up and guard certain areas of our lives, but don’t close off other areas, that are left completely vulnerable. While we may be keeping the enemy out of our lives through the main gate, we are allowing the devil free access through other areas.
If we really want to live complete victorious lives, then we must close off those unguarded areas of our lives. We must guard the eye-gate, quit looking at things you shouldn’t look at. Guard the ear-gate, don’t listen to things you shouldn’t listen to. Guard the mind-gate, don’t think things that don’t line up with the way God thinks. Guard especially the heart-gate. Give your heart to God first and then let Him direct the rest of your life.
The word of the day is, Guard the gate.
Ephesians 4:27 says, “and do not give the devil a foothold”
