Be True To You!

youI was born into a family of three boys. I am the second of those three. Now before you start to stereotype me with all of the middle child syndrome data and information that you believe to be true. I will let you know, it’s probably all true.

But I still have the responsibility to be who God made me to be.

I am not my father, Dr. James K. Bridges. Although he is my greatest role model and hero.

I am not either of my brothers regardless of their qualities. I am me.

I remember a few years ago, I was speaking at a conference of Pastors and after I had finished an older minister came up to me and looked at my casual attire and said, “Well, I guess I’m going to have to lose my tie to be a preacher today.” He said, “I just have a problem with that. I was a suit a tie guy before I got saved. I’ve worn a suit a tie all my life. I guess, I’m just not with it.” I sensed his frustration with changing his identity. I looked at him and I said, “You don’t have to change who you are. Rick Warren may wear Hawaiian shirts and Greg Laurie polo shirts, but Joel Osteen and T.D. Jakes still wear their suit and tie and all have continued to grow great churches. It’s not about whether a suit and tie are right or not, it’s whether it’s right for you or not.”

I saw a light bulb flash over his head as he realized, he didn’t have to change who he was, he just had to be confident in who he was.

The word of the day is “Be true to you.”

God made you in His image. But made you as a one of a kind.

Genesis 1:27 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him;”
