When you choose to give thanks it has the ability to even make your memories better. That’s right! You may be thinking, “Aren’t my memories what they are no matter what I choose to do today? Not necessarily. Because as my good friend Dr. Richard Dobbins used to say,
“You don’t live with the facts about your past. You live with what you tell yourself about the facts.”
In other words, you can talk yourself in to remembering things differently, which may not change what actually happened in the past, but it will change the way you feel about it. If you are tired of feeling angry, frustrated, upset or hurt over something in the past, choose to give thanks today for all the good things that you have in your life.
Have you ever gone back to visit something from your childhood? Possibly, the house you grew up in, or the church you used to attend, or the school you attended in elementary school? Only to walk in and think, “I remember it being so much bigger!”
Sometimes we remember things worse or better than they actually were- longer or shorter- bigger or smaller.
When we choose to give thanks, we are more likely to remember positive memories and even potentially turn some of your neutral or negative memories into positive ones.
Today’s Scripture: Philippians 1:3 “I thank my God every time I remember you.”
Today’s Challenge: Thank a teacher. If you are not a student, thank a teacher that works with your child. You may possibly know a teacher in your neighborhood or at your church. Thank them for all they do and especially pray for them.
Stay Thankful,
Kendall Bridges
