I walked up to a young man the other day working in the kitchen of a fast food restaurant and thanked him for his excellent service. I watched him go above and beyond what he was expected to do. I wanted him to know that I had recognized his superior actions and he deserved to be praised for it.
He responded, “It’s no problem Sir. That’s what I get paid to do.”
I loved this young man’s attitude. Too many employees don’t consider making someone else’s dining experience pleasurable, as part of their job description. They think just showing up for work and flipping a hamburger is all they have to do. If that is their attitude, that’s probably all they will ever do.
But the person that goes the extra mile will be first in line for promotion.
The gift of thanks, the gift of a thankful heart, and the gift of a thankful attitude will make room for you among great men.
Today’s Scripture: Proverbs 18:16 “A man’s gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men.”
Today’s Challenge: Thank a mentor (for example; a boss, a spiritual leader, a Life Group leader, ministry leader, Sunday School teacher, etc.)
You’ve had many different people who have made positive deposits into your life. Take a moment today and thank them.
“Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.” –William Arthur Ward
