It’s not too late to apologize!

apologize

The church service was about to start. I was walking into the sanctuary, greeting people as I entered. To my right a little lady walked up to me. I realized I had not seen her in a few months. I gave her a hug and asked how she was? She said, “I’m doing just fine Pastor.” Then I asked the question that has forever haunted me as the dumbest question I have ever asked. I asked, “How’s your Mom?” She looked up at me with a puzzled look on her face and said, “Pastor, Momma died last year.” As soon as I saw the puzzled looked, it all came back to me and I realized what I had done. It was as if it was all in slow motion and there was nothing I could do to stop it. I quickly apologized, I told her that I was so sorry and I certainly remembered her mother’s passing. That’s when she looked at me and said, “You should remember. You did the funeral.” AAAAAHHHHHHH! We both laughed.

I know what you are thinking. How could I be so stupid? Well, just walk in my shoes for a day and you will know what it’s like to be this way.

The word of the day is apologize. That’s right apologize.

It’s amazing how much would be forgiven and forgotten if we would just apologize. When you recognize that you have dropped the ball and missed the mark, don’t pretend it didn’t happen. Don’t excuse it away. Don’t blame it on someone else. Take ownership and apologize and trust in the mercy of others.

It will make your life better.

Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

Remember, no one is perfect.
