Little Things

little thingsRecently I was sitting at Starbucks when two men happened to sit down next to each other, very close to where I was sitting.  One, a white man, the other, a black man. One noticed that the other was reading the Bible. So one asked, “What book are you reading from?” The two began a wonderful conversation about how awesome God is. They both shared their testimonies with each other. I was enjoying listening to their conversation. But I couldn’t help but be saddened by the body language of the couple who were sitting across from me in. The more the two men discussed God’s goodness, the more this other couple became irritated that they were having to listen to a conversation about God. She slammed her coffee down on the table. She sighed, breathed harder and spoke loudly to her male friend, about how frustrated she was to have to listen to “this mess.”

It’s a sad day when just the conversation of Jesus creates anger and frustration. No one was trying to convert anyone. These two were genuinely excited about hearing one another’s stories. Not to mention the beauty of watching two men from two different nationalities, not allowing race to divide them, but rather allowing Jesus to unite them.

This frustrated couple missed the bigger picture. They allowed their lack of tolerance for God to blind them to the unity of these two men of different color.

Song of Solomon 2:15 says, “Catch for us the foxes, the little foxes that ruin the vineyards,”

This scripture is pointing out that the little foxes were the ones getting in to the vineyard and destroying it. Often times we allow “little things” to cause us to miss the “Big Picture.”

Little things is the word of the day.

Don’t allow the little things to cause you to miss the Big Picture in life.
