Self- Control is the word I want you to speak over your life today.
You can’t conquer the mountains in your life until you have conquered yourself.
Every day we face questions in our mind like…
- Do I say what I am thinking?
- Do I order dessert?
- Do I go to the gym today?
- Do I leave work early?
- Do I give back the extra money I was given with my change?
- Do I tell the cashier she forgot to charge me for that item?
- Do I eat that cupcake in the break room?
- Do I honk at the person driving too slowly?
The irony of this blog is that at the very moment I was sitting at my desk writing this blog, a box of cookies were delivered to my desk. I just laughed at the chances of that happening. So I get the opportunity to practice some self-control. So now, the questions is, does self-control mean no cookies or one cookie? You’ll never know.
Proverbs 25:28 A person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls.
2 Timothy 1:7 For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power and love and self-control.
If you can learn self-control, you can master anything, but never let your emotions overpower your intelligence. “Never do something permanently foolish, because you are temporarily upset.”
Practicing self-control is how you learn and gain self-control.
A simple rule to live by is, if you don’t want anyone to find out, then don’t do it.
Some people think that you just ought to…
- Live and let live.
- If it feels good do it.
- Follow your heart.
- Go with your gut.
- Just do it.
All of these slogans seem to fly in the face of self-control, with no real regard to responsibility.
There is nothing wrong with being a control freak if you are controlling your words, actions and attitude.
Self-control is telling yourself the right thing to do, before someone else has to.
You see everyone will experience pain in their life. Either the pain of self-control or the pain of regret. You get to decide which one. Have a better day.
