I still remember the mean-spirited words that were spoken to me by someone whom I thought was my friend, in Jr. High School. The words cut me to the heart. I can still feel a little bit of the sting. Why? Because words have power.
Be careful with your words. Once they are spoken, they can only be forgiven, not forgotten.
Think about the fact that God spoke the world into existence by the power of His words.
Hebrews 11:3 (KJV) “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God.”
Since we are made in His image, we have creative power in our words as well. Words do more than convey information, they create or destroy. They build up or tear down. They encourage or discourage.
Proverbs 12:6 (NLT) The words of the wicked are like a murderous ambush,
but the words of the godly save lives.
Did you know that you have the power of life and death in the words you speak?
Proverbs 18:21 (NIV) “The tongue has the power of life and death.”
I want to encourage you to use the power that God has given you to SPEAK LIFE into your marriage.
Use your words to unite rather than divide. Use your words to help rather than hurt. Use your words to heal rather than injure.
Every word you speak can be a building block to a better marriage and a better life, if you choose correctly. If you choose incorrectly, then your words will be like a sledge hammer, tearing down everything that you have worked so hard to build up. Don’t try to justify speaking everything that you think. You have the ability to take control over thoughts before they become words. That’s where the real battle is.
The word of the day is words. Choose words of life.
