Charles Spurgeon told an amusing story about a man named George Wishart, the first Episcopal bishop of Edinburgh, who during the 1600s was sentenced to death by hanging. He came to the day of his execution hoping for a pardon that had not yet arrived. It was a custom in those days to allow a condemned man to call for the singing of a psalm before he was put to death. Bishop Wishart, stalling for time, called for the singing of Psalm 119. Ha! It has 176 verses in it. It’s the longest chapter in the Bible. You should remember that the next time you need to stall for time. As the story goes, before they hit verse 100, the pardon arrived and Wishart was spared.
So, God does use his Word to deliver his people! It’s my prayer that we will all experience some deliverance and freedom today.
Psalm 119:11-12 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” 12 Praise be to you, O Lord; teach me your decrees.
As you read the word it will deliver you from anger, unforgiveness, bitterness, doubt, fear, worry and insecurity. It will deliver you if you will allow it.
The word of the day is deliverance. Speak this word over your life as you read God’s word and get yourself free from the “stuff” that may be holding you back.
