Holy Communion?

brothersMy brothers and I grew up as Preacher’s Kids hanging around the church after school and through the week. Oftentimes we would find ourselves hungry like normal red-blooded American boys. So we would break into the church kitchen looking for food. Usually, all we found were communion wafers and grape juice. We would drink the grape juice like we were taking shots of whiskey. It’s a wonder God didn’t strike us dead! Then we would eat communion wafers until we were sick. I still can’t stand communion wafers to this day.

But a good Sunday at church were the days when they ran out of those Styrofoam tasting wafers and had to substitute with saltine crackers. Yeah! Crackers with some taste! I admit, I would take more than one cracker.

But as I have grown older my appreciation for the act of communion has only grown. I love remembering the sacrifice of our Savior, Jesus. I love honoring Him through a simple act of communion.

Communion can be taken with your church family, your immediate family or as an individual. The bible says each time you do it, do it in remembrance of me.

Luke 22:19 (NIV) And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”

Remember Jesus today. Remember His sacrifice. Remember His love for you. That’s why the word of the day is “Remember.”

He loves you. He really does.

When you remember Christ, He will remember you and that makes life better.
