Recently, my son Dandy told me that his two and half year-old daughter, River, informed him that she was going to bed and he didn’t need to come into her room. She was going to go to sleep on her own. So he let her experiment with a little independence. After about 30 minutes, she called to him, “Daddy, you can lay by me!”
Children and adults alike experience this conflict of “wanting to be in-dependent”, yet still, “needing to be de-pendent.”
There is always a part of us that wants to spread our wings and fly on our own, yet still have the security of having a place to come home to.
God told Joshua in Joshua 1:7 “Be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.”
God told Joshua to be strong and courageous in order to prosper wherever you go. But He also told him he would need to remain dependent upon God’s laws and observe them for success to be realized.
The same is true for us. God wants us to have the courage to go for our dreams, but remain dependent upon His laws to ensure our success.
The word of the day is dependence. Keep your life dependent upon God and He will lead you to a better life.
