Today is Memorial Day. This is a for remembering the people who died while serving in our country’s armed forces.
Many people visit cemeteries and memorials, particularly to honor those who have died in military service. Many people fly an American flag from their home. Many people do nothing. Don’t be that person. Remembering the sacrifices of others is a good thing. It takes your focus off of yourself and onto others. and in a culture that is obsessed with “self,” remembering others is a good thing.
Philippians 2:3-4 (NIV) Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
Memorial Day is not to be confused with Veteran’s Day. Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving, while Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans.
Take a moment and reflect on the ultimate sacrifice of others, that have made it possible for you to enjoy the freedoms that this great country provides us.
