The word of the day is slow. Slow may seem like an odd word to speak over yourself, your family and your business. But consider it in light of the scripture below.
James 1:19 “My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,”
I don’t know about you, but I have always had a problem of speaking before I think. I have said to women, “I didn’t know you were pregnant?” Only for them to inform me that they were not pregnant. Oops. Yes, I’m stupid.
Most of us don’t have a problem of speaking too slow. Our problem is speaking too fast or speaking before we think.
Here are some thoughts on the words we speak.
- We’ve been given two ears and one mouth which says, we should listen twice as much as we speak.
- Keep your words soft and sweet; you never know when you may have to eat them.
- If you don’t say it — they can’t repeat it.
- If someone paid you ten cents for every kind word you said about people, and collected five cents for every unkind word, would you be rich or poor?
- The difference between a successful career and a mediocre one sometimes consists of leaving about four or five things a day unsaid.
The bottom line is this: Think before you speak. It will make your life better.
