Some things are better left unsaid, and I generally realize it, right after I said it.
Can anyone sympathize with me? I have been known to call people by the wrong name while I was praying for them. I have made the mistake of asking a lady when she was going to have her baby, only to find out she had already had the baby. I asked a woman one time, how her mother was doing? She looked at me a bit confused and said, “Pastor, Momma died last year…and you spoke at the funeral.” I know what you’re thinking, but I’m not going to repeat it. Yes, I have made some tremendous verbal blunders. I wish I could take back each one. But oftentimes when our words are spoken, they come out of your mouth and it’s like trying to herd cats, or chickens, or trying to fit in your wedding dress or tuxedo. (Ain’t gonna happen!)
So what do you do when you put your foot in your mouth, AGAIN? First of all, just say, you’re sorry. By doing this you address it, admit it, own it, embrace it and then choose to move on in spite of it. The word of the day is move on. We all make blunders from time to time. Learn to laugh at yourself and realize that it probably won’t be the last time. But be comforted that you are in good company, with everyone else. Go make your day better.
2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
