I can remember spending my summers with my grandparents down on the farm. It was an amazing time for me. My grandparents allowed us to help with the cows, horses, chickens, pigs and garden. We cut and bailed hay. We hunted and processed our food right there on the farm. I loved every minute of it. (Except shelling peas, I hated that)
My grandfather was a hard worker. He would get up early and work hard for an hour or two even before breakfast. Then back out to work. We would wait for my grandmother to call us in for lunch. Then after lunch my grandfather would go to his recliner and take a nap for about 15-20 minutes. Then back to work until dark.
His nap was as engrained in his schedule as his work ethic. In fact, it’s one of the things that gave him the strength he needed to work as hard as he did.
In this fast pace world that we live in, we have not found the importance of rest. I’m not just talking about sleep or naps. I’m talking about taking breaks from the routine of life. You need constant breaks from the routine in order to stay sharp and keep focused.
Hebrews 4:11 says “Anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his. Let us therefore make every effort to enter into God’s rest”
Make every effort to enter into God’s rest.
When was the last time you hit pause and really rested?
When you learn to rest, pause, break from the routine, you will find that your life is better.
