My son Kolt had taken his two sons out for donuts one morning. As they prayed over their food. he snapped a picture of his younger son, Maverick eyeing his older brother’s donuts, while they were supposed to be praying. Maverick took “watch and pray” to a whole ‘nutha level. Ha! It’s clear what’s on their mind.
The word of the day is “watch and pray.”
Jesus used this phrase “watch and pray” two different times.
- The night before the crucifixion in the Garden of Gethsemane.
Matthew 26:41“watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak”
- The other time was earlier in the ministry of Jesus when He was warning His disciples about the end times.
Luke 21:34, 36 “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap” He then says, “Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man” (verse 36).
The word translated “watch” means “to have the alertness of a guard at night.”
Things are different at night. You can’t always see at night, so you have to depend on your other senses. That’s why we need to pray more. As we pray, we are able to tap into the spiritual senses that God has given us that will enable us to stand strong against our enemy.
Watch and Pray! It will make your life better.
