Our nation is hurting again as hatred and violence spills over onto our streets and in our lives. Especially here in our great metropolitan area of Dallas/Fort Worth. I live here and I love my city and this community.
Our city is grieving and mourning at this time as more lives have been taken. Five brave Police officers were killed, and many others were wounded, while protecting the rights of others to protest their convictions.
These are senseless murders, shameless acts of hostility, and foolish divisions that only destroy and do not build up or unite.
I don’t pretend to understand everyone’s pain and where everyone is coming from. But I know this, Black Lives Matter, White Lives Matter, Brown Lives Matter, Straight Live Matter, Gay Lives Matter, Unborn Lives Matter, Christian Lives Matter, Muslim Lives Matter, ALL LIVES MATTER! (John 3:16 For God so loved the world…)
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “We must learn to live together as brothers or we will perish together as fools.”
Jesus taught us that there is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for another. (John 15:13)
Our military, police officers, first responders and so many others put their lives at risk every day as they serve and protect us. I am thankful for those who wear the badge and I pray for their safety and for the peace of our city.
Jeremiah 29:7 says, “And seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to the Lord for it; for in its peace you will have peace.”
In his statement to media, Dallas Police Chief David Brown said with emotion, “We don’t feel support most days. Let’s not make today most days.”
I would challenge you to reach out to local law enforcement with a gesture of gratitude, support, and prayer. In light of this tragedy, may we also pray today for these needs:
- Pray for the families of those slain in the line of duty
- Pray for the healing and recovery of those injured in this attack
- Pray for the safety and comfort of law enforcement officers throughout our nation
- Pray for peace and healing throughout our nation
